A floor lamp with diffused light, Serpente was created in 1965 using production methods that were novel at the time.
The body includes a diffuser made of white opal methacrylate and is composed of a tubular arm that can be rotated around a central pivot. The arm's flowing form encircles the circular metal base, providing the whole with stability and motion.
The diffuser, which was produced by thermoforming and has a complex undercut, was made using specially made molds that were created internally. Likewise, a thorough technical analysis was conducted on the lamp's characteristic curvature, which was applied to both the floor and table variants.
