"The 50 years of a lamp as important for Martinelli Luce as Cobra, designed by founder Elio Martinelli, certainly represent an event of great significance for the company. To celebrate this anniversary, my first thought was a new color, Enamel Red: a bright color, symbolic of fire, of joy, of love, of light, and weighty with emotion . . . a further characterization of the lamp’s strong personality! But that’s not all. Why not experiment further with the color and why not discover how other designers interpret it?" A tribute, by all involved, to Elio Martinelli, who designed the Cobra in far-off 1968: a futuristic lamp for its era. Emiliana Martinelli has invited 23 designers - as Paola Navone and Karim Rashid - who have been collaborating with Martinelli Luce for many years now, and several friends, to revisit the Cobra lamp by creating a graphic texture to apply to its surface. The invitation was accepted enthusiastically and unanimously and the 23 signed and numbered creations were presented at La Triennale of Milan on 27 February on occasion of the COBRA TEXTURE press conference, in the presence of Silvana Annichiarico - Triennale Design Museum, the journalist Cristina Morozzi, Luciano Galimberti President of ADI, Massimo Farinatti Coordinator of the ADI Design Department, Emiliana Martinelli President of Martinelli Luce and Marco Ghilarducci CEO of Martinelli Luce.
