Founded in 1992, Federico Oliva Associati, also known as FOA (Federico Oliva, Paolo Galuzzi, Piergiorgio Vitillo), is an architectural studio located in Milan.
The trio of associates has integrated teaching, research, and practical applications by fusing university instruction with the firm's work in local planning, urban design, and architecture. They aim to convey the thought process behind the work done while constructing theories through day-to-day operations.
The firm has over the years explored the themes of urban design in various settlement contexts, including Rome, Milan, Parma, Ruhr - Emascher Park, Lugano, Rimini, Hamburg, Shanghai, Verona, Doha, Cairo, Bari, and Padua, in addition to the urban plans of several Italian cities, including Reggio Emilia, Piacenza, Rome, La Spezia, Ivrea, Cuneo, Carrara, and Padua. This approach aims to integrate various landscape, environmental, and settlement aspects, as well as procedural and processual aspects. The project is interpreted as an organic, coordinated, performance-based, and flexible proposal of physical and phased modification of parts of the city, in order to define a vision of urban transformation closely linked to implementation aspects.
The Studio has also designed and realised public buildings and spaces, residential and commercial settlements, participating in national and international invited competitions.
Several of the Studio's works have been exhibited in exhibitions and published in leading trade journals.
