Donia Maaoui was born in Belgium to a Belgian mother and a Tunisian father. At the age of 7, her family left Tunisia and moved to Brussels.
In 1984, during her studies, Donia started walking the catwalks for some of the biggest fashion designers.
In 1993 he graduated in architecture from La Cambre Institute in Brussels. She worked as an architect in Tunis and Brussels, where she met Michel Boucquillon, who would become her husband in the following years. In addition to being a partner, Donia is also a collaborator.
Since 2000, the couple has lived in Italy. Since then, Donia has mainly devoted herself to sculpture and painting.
'I am deeply European in my way of life. But Tunisia is in my heart. Very soon my roots will be evident in my work. In particular, the situation of Muslim women'.
Lola, the main protagonist of her bronze sculptures, has been exhibited in many museums and art galleries around the world.
