The Musée d’Orsay and Martinelli Luce:
a new colour inspired by the museum’s architecture
In 2026, the Musée d’Orsay will celebrate the 40th anniversary of its opening to the public and its interior renovation, designed by Gae Aulenti.
To mark this occasion, the Musée d’Orsay is joining forces with Martinelli Luce. Twenty years before transforming Orsay station into a museum, Gae Aulenti had already made her mark on the history of design with the Pipistrello lamp, designed in 1965 for the Olivetti showroom in Paris.
Today, this iconic piece has been reinterpreted in a special edition, born of the collaboration between the Musée d’Orsay and Martinelli Luce. This new version of the Pipistrello is distinguished by a colour finish directly inspired by an architectural detail from the museum’s interiors. To symbolise this partnership,
the logos of the Musée d’Orsay and Martinelli Luce are engraved on the lamp’s conical base.
